I would post in the middle tn. crappie forum, that is a good bunch of folks who could probably help you out.

I will be moving my family from NE Arkansas to the Nashville are in the next few weeks. I am looking for recommendations for smaller crappie fishing lakes in the area. I have a 14 ft Waco Crappie boat w a 6hp Johnson. The only lakes I know of in the area are big lakes in my opinion. I am hoping there are some smaller impoundments I can wet jigs in that aren't too far from Nashvegas! Any recommendations?
I will be looking to join a crappie club once I get settled as well.
Thanks for any info you can provide!
no matter what I'm doing, I've got hunting or fishing on my mind...

htr, your boat will be fine on most any lake we have. Old Hickery, JPP are great areas close and some of the ramps will put you right in some of the best fishing without a lot on running. JPP has Stewarts Creek not to mention West Fork boat ramps that will do this without putting you out on the bigger water. Tons of good fishing in those areas.
If ya don't mind the drive you have Normandy and Woods south of Nashville as well. I enjoy taking the family to Woods due to area down there. If you want to learn a lot about the lakes over this way and be around a bunch of good folk that enjoy Crappie fishing link up with the Middle Tennessee Crappie Club. The members will be glad to help ya out. Right now we don't fish JPP but hope with new members up this way that will change in the future. Hope to see ya...be glad to help.
You may want to check out TWRA's family fishing lakes. Google TWRA and look under "For Anglers", then "TWRA family fishing lakes".

Thanks guys; i feel better already. Although, if I had been able to tell my wife that there was no fishing for smaller boats, I might have been able to swing a new boat purchase!

You can catch all you want at JPP in the Stewarts Creek area. Great for small boat. Come on down and fish with us at Woods or Normandy also. MTCC is the only local Crappie Club in this area that I know of.

As stated already, come on down n fish with us if you can, but if your still concerned about bigger lakes being too big for you there are some smaller lakes you can get to as well. There is New Lake, just outside of Lewisburg Tn which is south of Nashville, and there is Bedford county lake you can fish as a small body to fish. Also, over toward Lawrenceburg Tn there are a few different TWRA lakes that are small ones to choose from. I think the one I am thinking of is called Laurel Hill but there are others in the area as well. Dont be too scared of Woods Res though as its a great fishery and its small enough you shouldnt feel threatened by bigger boats.Good luck and welcome to TN
