    Default Tellico Trip

Just couldn't stand it. Had to be on the water today but somewhere different. Rick Swanson and I had try to get together for a month and today we made it. He started a little early than I but once I got there they were already in the 40's of short fish. Lot of baitfish activity and this lake is going to be a gold mine in a couple of years. Rick and Uncle Lester had to leave early but I stayed till 2:00pm and ended the day with 15 keepers and 66 shorts. If it had Orange they would hit it. Pink stuff was a close second. Trolled at various speeds in 12 to 5 ft of water. Water temp was 59 when I left. Caught 3 females that had red clay mud on their tails. Care to quess what that means. Thanks for the invite Rick I owe you one on The Chick.

Good show! Thats where you were at. They were shallow today on the Chick just as you said they would be. They would hit almost anything when the mood struck em. I didnt load the boat but it was still good.

A lot of people get frustrated with tellico, but it is one of my favorite lakes to fish and I think it will explode into a better and better crappie fishery. It has been my experience that if you want to catch bigger crappie on tellico, you have to put down the trolling rods and probe the deeper brush piles. I love to troll, but I always do better with better quality on tellico with the float n fly or jig pole. And during the summer, nothing but cranks tipped with jigs as a trailer. I have camped at notch creek for the past five years and watched the older guys in there. They fish deeper, they don't troll.

dang, you did better up that way then i thought you would. we go up that way when WT gets in the low 70's and do pretty good. next time we gotta get JIMP to go with us. and i would love to make it to the chick one day and let you show us around. after we left you, we went back to the old crekk channel and they where other boats trollin, but not pickin up as many fish as we were. we also tried a shallow hot spot, we usally fish during spawn, but not 1 fish was there. and the water conditions was totally opposite then where you was at. its was fun, lester had a great time, we'll do it again when i get caught up on work. take care, rick
