The morning was cool, all of 32 degrees, when I slid the boat off the trailer. JD is a friend and an avid fly fisherman who's company I don't get to enjoy near often enough in my boat. The last time was about 2 1/2 years ago. I've been telling him for a long time about the fun of vertical jigging, and finally got the long rods in his hands. The fish were smarter than me as they didn't begin to bite til the sun got up a little. The fall colors were looking real good, and thankfully the wind wasn't terrible. Just enough to keep the boat moving. We used some 1/8th sickle jigs with different color Bobby Garlands for the day. We finished the day with 7 good fish from 11 to 13 1/2 inches that weighed very close to 8 1/2 lbs. I'd like to tell you I spent the day expounding my knowledge and showing my guest how it's done, but that wasn't the case. JD got 5 of the keepers, and I had 2. My 9' Wally Marshall Rods fit his hand well, it seems. I lost another nice one at boatside, but those are hard to fillet. A good time was had by the both of us, and with other things to do we pulled the boat at 10am, it had warmed to 62 degrees by the time we made the ramp. I hope to get together with him again soon, good friends are hard to find. Here's a couple of pics, and thanks for visiting with me today.

    Skeet,
Sounds like a good time with a good Friend. I had the pleasure of eating lunch with Splitshot82 the other day, I have made a lot of good friends on here.

sounds like a good day, better than mine. I got to the ramp about 9.30a, waited for the temp to get up from 30 when I got up this morning. Was about 45 deg when I launched the boat, calm wind, water was almost like glass. Unfortunately that lasted about 30mins, and then the wind started up at about 10mph, and got a little blustery, gusts at 15 or so. The new Terrova w/ipilot did good, but was playing with a new DF/FF and not paying enought attention to the 2 LL rods I had out and both got hung up on the same piece of structure. Well, I turned the TM off and then the wind kicked up, swung the boat around on me with one line under the boat with the rod going double on me, I loosen the drag and that helped, but apparently the damage was done. Finally got the line out from under the boat and got back to the structure while trying to reel in 2 hung up lines. I can thank the wind again as the lines got tangled, then wrapped around the other reel on the OTHER rod, and it was a mess. Used the spot anchor when i got over the structure, and barely pulled up on one rod and SNAP CRACK & POP. A new but inexpensive rod broke just past the mid way point of of the 7' lenght. The broken off part of the rod just slid down the line to the structure I was hung up on. I just cut the line on both reels still hung up on the structure and wrapped around each other, and laid the broken rod and the other rod down in the boat. I moved over into to a cove out of the wind to re-group/re-ty and consider chunking the broken rod handle in the water but remembered I still had the receipt so I didn't chunk it. Picked up the 3rd rod I carry for days like this, and thought about things for a minute. Decided I had better do one thing at a time, so I played with the settings on the DF for a couple hrs, trying to figure it out. Think I got it set the best it's gonna get, but thinking about moving the ducer off the TM to the transom. It was nice to be out on the water, but the wind didn't get any brownie points from me today. I also only caught 1 dink, and I'm stretching it by calling it a dink, maybe 4-5" total length. But there was not a cloud in the sky today. Glad you had a good day.

Jimp. I'd like to tell you that I haven't had times like that, but I have. Beat rakin leaves though.

no trees in the yard, but did xchange the broke rod for a new one since I did have the receipt since I had to go get some "stuff" for the grandbaby to poop in. LOL.
