They need to discuss a plan for eradication of Asian carp. If KY Lake gets as bad as RF in a few years you can forget about skiing and such. 20 lb carp to the chest might leave a mark.

Ky wildlife laid out their "carp" plan at out Big Bear get together a couple of weeks. There is no eradication plan as it would be impossible. However, they plan to open more protected areas up to commercial fisherman and try to control the carp population. They will be working in conjunction with TWRA.

Commercial fishing that I am aware of is mainly for spoon bill. The egg roe is in high demand in Japan and the commercial guys want to open all water to nets. What monetary value is the carp? Maybe cat food? It still does not seem like a good business venture. Cat food in the raw maybe at $ .25 per pound? But on the other hand, $ 100.00 per pound spoon bill eggs gets their attention very quickly. Is it reasonable to assume that gill netting will not do harm to other fishes? Me, I think that would be a stretch. I want the carp gone as much as anyone. A large scale shocking operation with a barge to haul the carp take would seem to be a more efficient method of taking large volumes of carp. The other species simply just recover from the shock. That's my 2.

It's either this netting coordination .... or we're going to have to rig our boats up to look something like what The Road Warrior would fish out of Doh

Fertilizer & cat food are just some of the first "off the cuff" ideas for utilizing these fish. They are edible, if cleaned &/or processed correctly. They can be harvested & sold overseas, if we can get a market open for them. They can be harvested & processed, then sold to local markets ... if we can get people past the "carp" name & related repugnance.

The marine biologist at the KY get together said the Asian carp is good eating and tasty as crappie. He was very informative about the carp. So, if I catch one by accident, I will try it out. The fish have a y bone, so I will slaughter the fillet process. Just enough to taste is all I need though.

The Asians are plankton eaters only. If I snag one, I will definitely try it out. I have this link bookmarked. Thanks pappy.
