They could've hit something being that close to the channel marker. One thing to remember too with these bass boats and even some bay and flats boats. Is when you are turning going that fast the boat will want to slide. If you get "bow bite" or "nose bite" first the boat will pivot around on the nose and you're going for a ride. He should've lifted on entering the turn so the hull strakes would grip and turn like it's supposed to.
