I spent the last 4 days at my friend,Charlie's cabin that I wrote about earlier. The cold snap certainty affected the fish, but we still managed a good mixed bag of Crappie, Bass, and Bream. My son gave me some Rapala Ultralight lures so I tied on an original floating minnow in 1 1/2" length and the fish loved it. I caught a couple of nice bass, a Bream and then a 5 # Mudfish decided to attack it. In the ensuing melee he managed to break off the lip when I had him netted to recover my plug.
I didn't realize the lip was gone (he also straightened several of the hooks on the two trebles) so I kept using it and caught two nice crappie. Later when I realized the lip was missing checked the pictures and sure enough they had hit the lipless lure.
I also got the menu upgraded from squirrel to quail .We fed about 14 hungry guys fried quail, yellow grits, rice, and cole slaw and gravy of course. We finished that off with some banana pudding Charlie's wife had made for us.
We decided to try a oxbow lake in the hunt club property the next day. We caught enough for lunch but the main attraction was the total solitude of the place. We never heard a car, plane or person the entire time. Course, it was off the beaten path by quite a bit.
The picture doesn't do justice to how steep the ramp was. Charlie and his friends dug this out of the steep bank to allow access to the small lake.
One last picture, this being the man cave at the cabin where We do some of the cooking.
