Made it back out on the water this weekend after a couple weeks off. I was like a kid on Christmas morning trying to get the last few things loaded and ready. The old dream team was in action this week. My dad and uncle joined me for their first crappie trip of 2018. They've been hard at work on operation perch removal and have been very successful. We used to fish together ALL the time but it doesn't happen as often these days. They are the ones that are responsible for my serious addiction for the outdoors. They were carrying me fishing with them when I was just a little fella.

We left the house at 6:15 AM and after a stop for gas and minners we made it to the water at day light. We were greeted with some muddy water and cold air! When we launched the boat I put water in the livewell and you couldn't see the bottom of the livewell. But, fish have to eat in the mud too, right?

We made a cold run to my "Christmas Hole" and found the water was a bit cleaner and the water temp was 48. The bite was slow but the quality of fish drastically improved from my previous trips. Fish were caught fishing in 12-20 FOW on an assortment of colors and baits but minners were on every hook. The fish were very depth specific which I attribute to the water color.

We fished till lunch time and ended up with 23 crappie for the knife. Biggest difference from past trips was size. We had some real quality fish this trip which was what I've been looking for. ''Tis the season for the big mamas to start showing up and they look to be on schedule.

Just for good measure, we ended the day jigging and caught one last big mama to cap off a cold, but enjoyable outing!! I'm already looking forward to next weekends possibilities but this rain sure seems to complicate things.

Here's a few pictures from the trip.

And little Miss Brantlee was happy too!!! She's growing up too fast just like her sister. Won't be long before I'll be passing the addiction on to them.
