I planted enough collards for a couple of meals for New Year's day. Got them simmering on the stove. We are in Atlanta with my #2 son and his family and it is a chilly 18* this morning. Blackeye peas are on the stove too.
How many of you have this on New Year's day?

We always have the traditional collard greens, black eyed peas cooked in ham bone broth with corn bread and of course ham.
Happy New Year to you and your family.

My 5 year old grandson has a friend staying over to play with him. I just heard a bunch of shouting and found them looking out the window at a few snow flakes falling. Not supposed to do anything but it sure got their attention.

Always fresh peas for New Year's day. Started a soak after Church, last night. Canned collards this year and corn bread.
Those greens look good! In the ground and the pot!

    Default New Year Collards

Got a big crew coming today, pink eyed peas, hog jowl, cabbage, cornbread, fried potatoes.
Don’t know why no collard greens, guess not quite far enough south.

Ray, just got through with lunch and had a big helping of collards and black eyed peas with a cake of corn bread. I also have pintos that soaked all night in a crock pot cooking for supper now. It's always been a tradition in our home. My mom use to put a silver dollar in with the peas for good luck in the new year. Some things you can't change. Good luck and Happy New Year. Hope to see you Wylie this year!

ALWAYS! Cant remember a year that collard greens, peas, cornbread and ham wasnt prepared at my house. Usually there's more too....like deviled eggs, sweet potato casserole, and some kinds of deserts.

Yep, I cooked the collards yesterday and we put them in the garage fridge until today. They always taste better to us after they sit for a day after being cooked. My bride cooked the black eye peas, sweet taters, and cornbread today. Man, it was all a great way to start off the new 2018 year !
The next objective is to get a freezer full of 2018 Crappie !
Happy New Year to all Y'all .

    Default Adding insult to injury

After hurting myself with all the New Year's feast I had some chocolate cake, but not just any chocolate cake. My Mom used to bake and sell cakes and the favorite was her chocolate cake. She has been gone awhile now, but I found a lady in my old hometown that has nailed my Mom's recipe. So I treat myself once a year to this 14 layer homemade chocolate cake just like Mama used to make.
