Where to fish

I have never fished in SC before. Was considering a week long camping trip first week of February. I have a 17 deep Lund boat and a pickup camper. We are coming from Illinois and February is a good mid winter time to get a break from cold. We were considering floriida finding a decent campground has been a challenge.

Was thinking of the Marion or Moultrie lakes. If crappie were not biting would other fish be biting.

Trying to find a nice place to camp by decent Fishing

Gizmo, first week in February should be a good time to be at most any of our lakes. I would suggest Clark's Hill, Wateree, Murray, Greenwood, or the Santee Lakes (Marion and Moultrie) for some good camping spots as well as fishing. There are state parks that have campsites and I'm sure you could find fish biting on any of the lakes. You could also opt to fish a few different lakes since they are not too far apart. For instance, Murray, Greenwood, and Clark's Hill are all within an hour to hour and half from one another. Keep your eyes on the board closer to your trip and I'm sure you'll see some reports from most all the lakes mentioned.

Ive always heard that Jan and Feb are GREAT lakes to catch MONSTER cats in the Santee lakes. I'm sure that biting crappie can also be caught along with most anything else that is in the lakes. Like mentioned, there's ALOT of lakes that will be starting their pre-spawn moves and some nice stringers of fish will be getting caught....with a great chance to get that elusive 3 lber that everybody wants to catch. Keep up with the site and I'm SURE after the first of the yeare you will start seeing more reports of all the local lakes. Right now Lake Oconee (in NE Ga.) has some great reports coming online.

I live between santee and wateree and have a alumcraft comp 175 deep v and will say santee is pretty treacherous to naviagte with an extra long shaft outboard. Never be in a hurry if you choose to go there. I can help with lake wateree and others have good knowledge of clarks hill. If by some chance you are retired military, both clarks hill and wateree have military campgrounds and cabins that are very nice. Feb should be time for longlining or close. Send me a message when the time gets closer.

I recommend Wateree. The State Park is very nice, safe, with good fishing very close by. Should have no problem finding the crappie, but it is also an excellent catfish destination.
