Default Long Line ball head jigs vs Road Runners.

Ok you long line experts. I started to use Road Runners and tested the depth on a flat and came to the conclusion that the both run about same depth same weight. I did do a lot of test with braid line 10x2 with ball jigs to get different depth at different speeds. Now I did Road runner jigs with mono and it seemed to run one foot deeper at 14 feet same speed as ballhead.

Long story short have any of you do both jig types and found they run about the same depth?

    Thanks

I am not no expert though both methods will works. I am liken the road runners a lot better. I will do the double jig method put the regular jig at the top and used roadrunner on the bottom. Seem like the roadrunner will out produce the regular jig.

I'm no expert by any means, but I've almost always use the "minnow" head on my longlining set up.Figured it was a little more aerodynamic in shape than the round head. CK have you done any depth experiments with the same jig on mono vs the braid? I was thinking the braid would float and wouldn't get as deep as the mono, but I've been wrong many many times

    Sam,
you are not wrong on braid , but if you get the braid that has the same or real close to the dia. of 6lb mono you can get real close to the same depths as mono !!! now I will throw my Monkey wrench into the equation I use nothing but round aspirin head jigs 1/8 most all the time even in 10 ft of water pulling at .09 to 1.2 mph !!!!the round aspirin head goes a little deeper then the regular round heads !!!6lb hi-vis vicious panfish line !!!

Use both all the time and they both run close enough to the same depths to not worry about it.

I am sorry I meant if roadrunners run the same depth with same line. I just used braid 10 pound 2 diameter. I switched back to mono with roadrunners with little testing not much different.

Yes Joe I use 6lb mono, CK I see no big difference in the two head styles with the line I have used. 4,6 and 10lb lines. Have not used braid with jigs.
