Your St Croix rods should work. Most any 5-7' rod will "work", if you practice with it and get the release timing down correctly in accordance with the action of that rod. My dock shooting "mentor" used a 6' med action spinning outfit that he Bass fished with ... he just put on 4lb test line for Crappie fishing.

As for plastics ... use whatever brand or style or size you like. I'd just recommend using a solid body plastic, since they do tend to skip better than hollow plastics. Panfish Assassins, Bobby Garland, Mr Crappie/Strike King, Slabanator, and Southern Pro are brands I use ... depending on the shape of bait I want to use, or the color scheme that's producing the most hits.

Slabanator jig bodies are locally custom made, and the others are commercially made. Hey CP, good to see that you're still taking nourishment and still flapping those Panfish Assassins. I still think a lot about those days at Watts Bar with you, Don G, Blackie and Jackie. I learned a lot on those trip. I still flip jigs that way, just not around docks, but in the upper Santee Swamp around those low hanging trees. It still works well there.

Yeah, them was good times !! Watts Bar has gotten a little stingy since those days, but the ones it does give up are really nice sized.

I'm still slingin' Assassins & marabou Roadrunners, and getting into pushin' jigs & cranks, along with a little spider rigging. And I talk with Don G now & then.

Good to see you still out there after them Swamp Crappie ... you keep after'em !!
