I fish the upper part of Murray often because it is less crowded and is a productive area. So I got the great idea that I should fish it a night. I went with one of my gullible friends(Jeff) and we anchored out on the point near where the two large creeks converge into the lake. I thought if we used fresh cut herring and night crawlers we would load the boat with catfish and other night time feeders.
Well, it was not to be. We anchored and fished from 7 until 11 and caught one catfish, around 3 to 4 pounds. We changed locations once during that time but it did not help much.
One thing I found interesting though. We hit the docks trying to see if a crappie was around. I was using a jig and Jeff was casting a Bitsy Pond Minnow and he caught 6 or 7 nice bream on it. He was trying to get some white perch for bait, but all he got were the bream. I switched to a Rooster Tail and caught 3 or 4 bream after the jig did not produce.
I was wondering if we had specifically been fishing for bream what we would have caught?

Probably caught catfish. I see you did not fish the bridges. Soon as I get my boat back I am going to try a night stalk on one of the river bridges. Was told they were catching some.
We were targeting catfish. I can't get any of my regular buds interested in crappie. They fish for Stripers, Largemouth, and catfish.

Those bream would have been a great bait for cats. Slow nights will make you enjoy good nights a lot more, thanks for the report Ray.

We used the bream cut up on two of the rods. I think we needed dynamite.

It may be worth the effort to got out on a bream night stalk. Crickets pitched into the lights might boat ya boat load of gills. Sounds like a tough night for the cat and striper.

One rod, one jig, one fish at a time.
Now that's a good idea. If it was light enough a fly rod might be fun too.
