Just curious on yals opinions on some good lakes or areas on lakes with lots of lay downs along the sides and grass and stuff?
Loving the forum a picking the masters brains! Thanks!
The portion of Lake Marion (Santee to us locals) above the I95 bridge is lay down heaven.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
Yes Santee has many lay downs, this is because the lake is full of standing timber. I fish this lake the vast majority of the time and feel certain this isn't the structure you are looking for most of the time. Lay downs on any lake that is void of nature habitat are a much more reliable form of fish holding structure than a lake that has thousands. Lakes Murray, Greenwood, and Clarks Hill are deeper and have an abundance of fallen trees in creek and river channels. These trees will, and do hold fish. You may fish every lay downed tree in Santee and never catch a fish. The choice is yours, lots of targets......no fish. Fewer targets.....some fish. Spring and fall time at Santee is a different story. Find the right trees in the right depth of water and you very well may catch a bunch.
