Default July 4th Lake Murray Report

Well fellas, summertime is upon us in full force. The heat is almost unbearable on the lake if you aren't moving or don't have a breeze. I started my trip this morning at 8 AM and it was already hot. I'd prefer to fish early before the heat, but it seems the bite is better once the sun gets up for my style of single poling. Once the structure I'm fishing gets a little shade around and under it the fish flock to it!

The pattern was the same as the last few trips I've taken. I dropped jigs around anything that looked good in 5-20 FOW. Surprisingly, my best spot was in 5 FOW. But I caught a fish here and there all morning. At 10:20 AM I finished out my limit and culled a few fish afterwards. I was off the water before noon with a nice mess of fish. Had some pretty good ones in the mix too. Best colors were black/chart and yellow/white but I caught fish on every color I tried...just one of those days where they were feeding. Water temp was 92 degrees this morning!!!! Pretty sure my catch was almost already cooked when I boated them LOL The bite won't last long in the heat, but I'm going to enjoy it while I can!

Looking good Derek. It seems the pattern is holding true on both our lakes. Congrats on the fine morning of crappie snatching.
