Butch I have fished it a few times. There are only 2 ramps and the wind (if any) kind of points you to which ramp. One of my buds from years past fishes it and he went with me for catfish a couple of years back.
We anchored in about 20 FOW just off a 35 ft drop and just fan cast redworms and night crawlers on the bottom.
If I was going today I would add some of the stink bait products to the mix. I bought a jar of "Sonny's Super Sticky Channel Cat Bait." Supposed to cut a piece off a swim noodle and dip it in this stuff and hold on. The cat fisherman at Santee swear by it, even some guides use it. I have not had a chance to try it yet.
The day I went with my friend we caught maybe 15 or so that ran from 2 to 7 pounds.
One other friend fishes Monticello exclusively for bass and cats. He trolls a Buck Perry Spoon plug and he catches some really large fish. He even went to a 3 day school in North Carolina on fishing this plug. I didn't know they still made it but he does really well with it.
Just have to mind the wind, it can get rough sometimes. Ronnie fishes it from his kayak so he will have more current info than me.
Good luck.
