Remember, the key is finding fish willing to bite. And if theyre willing to bite then they will chase so I try getting jigs down around 14'-15' deep pulling at a slower speed, a very long cast, and pulling off extra line running a 1/16th jig with a splitshot about the same size as the jighead (#7 I think). Fish eat during the summer months too.

I move up to a 1/8 oz head when the fish are deeper and I'm guessing that a #7 weight added to a 1/16 oz jig will give close to or maybe a little over 1/8 oz. But at the same time a box of weights are cheaper to buy than new jigs
The main thing to remember like Butch said they do eat in the summer months. Try hitting the water early before the sun gets high or the last couple of hours before dark. Good luck
