    Default Drift Sock Preference

Thinking seriously about purchasing a drift sock and have noticed there are many different manufacturers out there and i have no knowledge about them and which ones are better quality and which ones are not good. Anything you can share will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Knappy

I know there will be some name brands that will come up but I can only say anything about the ones I have and been using for many years now. I bought my socks from Academy and have never had any troubles with them. This time of the year they get a good workout. You will be glad when you buy some and use them, makes a big difference holding the boat at low speeds.

Knappy, I have to say the same. I have two of the cheap ones from Academy and they hold my boat well enough until the wind gets over 15 mph. I'm about ready to quit when the lake is that rough though. Just a thought...whiochever brand you decide on, dont buy just one. Get two so you can run 'em off the corners of your boat so the boat isnt pulling sideways. (Two for winds over 10 mph, one over the motor with less wind and a sock is needed). That's my recommendation anyways.

I have 2 of the same ones, as I said before, If I had it to do over again, I would have bought bigger ones. These are good socks, I have used mine a lot with no problems.I got one 54 inch and i think I'm going to get another one that size. Then I should be fine in any kind of wind.

You can go "old school" and use a five gallon bucket, or a couple of buckets if one is not enough. Here is a link to a thread about using them.

You can also use a long length piece of log chain also. It will slow you down

Add a big hook on the water end and it will really slow you down
