Had a great trip on the upper end of Lake Murray today with Sinkermaker (Don). I am just starting to try long lining and just moved to the upper end of the lake and Don agreed to take a rookie out to show me some of the better areas up the rivers and tips on long lining. I learned a lot and had a great time with Don.
The Crappie were there but were not in too much of a biting mood. We caught a mixed bag of 3-4 fish. Had one real nice Crappie (no pic) and one real nice Shellcracker (pic with Don and Shellcracker). I also picked up a lot of ideas for equipment and set up of boat for long lining and tight lining.
A good day with a new friend.![]()

Its been 10 years since I done it, but I used to long line at Murray in the spring, caught a lot of slabs !!!!!!! Just ask knappy, he knows. Thanks for the report.
nothing like learning something new
I enjoyed the trip and I am glad I was able to help you on Murray. We will do it again in the future and see if we can find some biting fish. When I left you I ran out of gas about half way home. Old farts never learn
That is a nice Shellcracker. After learning a little bit about how to fish for them last year, I am anxious to try them this spring. I think they start about the time the crappie spawn is over.
Did yo catch him on a jig while long lining?
