Default Has the bite picked up on Hartwell?

I am new to this page but have really enjoyed navigating through it. I am hoping to take my wife crappie fishing on friday, she has never been before and i want her to catch some fish and have a good time. I was hoping to go to hartwell because it is the closest lake to us. I fished hartwell 2 weeks ago and it was kind of slow, caught a lot of small fish under 10in. Has the bite picked up on hartwell? Have they moved into shallow water yet? My other option was secession but i am afraid the ramp will be full on a holiday weekend. Thank you.

The ramp at Secession is full "everyday" but the fish are biting there. Hartwell bite has been on/off but you can catch good fish there but it may take some riding and looking to find the right place to catch them. The fish on all the upstate lakes are working the shallow water but from what I have seen the crappie are not staying in the shallows throughout the day. You may have to back off the banks to locate the crappie in 10' to 15' depths.

Good luck and hope you & your wife can get on some this weekend. Welcome to Crappie.com

Well my wife and I went and fished Hartwell Friday afternoon and evening. We trolled quite a few of hot spots i have had in the past and could not get but a few crappie to bite. On the other hand we caught about 12 small striper so she at least got the thrill of reeling in some fish on some light tackle. It could of just been an off day but appears the crappie might of moved up under docks and into shallow water on hartwell.
