Default Fish Finder on the front of a Pontoon?

Sorry for the long post, but I have a question I need some help with.

I was cleaning out the garage and found an old fishfinder (Eagle Fish I.D. 128)I had taken off my boat a few years back. The transducer is busted but I found a replacement on the internet for about $50. So that got me thinkin, how can I mount this transducer off the front of my pontoon boat where I fish at? I don't want to mount it on the back because thats over 20 ft away from where I am fishing. I thought about just mounting it to a 3ft piece of 1x4 and just clamp the top of the board to the front railing after I get to my fishing hole. P.S. I don't have a trolling motor to mount it to.

Any other ideas on how to mount this transducer up front?

    Thanks!! -Toad

I have thought about something like that also. Sorta scared of rocks, stumps, etc. on these low lakes with the tranducer being 20-24' away from the front. Hope someone out there has put some thought and can come up with advice on what to do. Darn lakes can get shallow in a hurry when you're readin' that far back from the bow.

I think BPS sells a transducer holder, but i think you can make one pretty easy. Best place is to mount it on your trolling motor.

since you aint got a trolling motor, you could take a piece of conduit, pvc or something like that, mount the transducer to it and use some vice grips to clamp it to something vertical on the front of the boat. dont forget to take it in before you fire the big motor..

I found this contraption at cabelas that should do the trick. This one will probably look a whole lot better than the jerry-rigged model I had in mind.

    Thanks for the help!!

With a little thought I bet you could come up with something that slides up out of the water and locks for riding and lowers into the water when you want to see what's underneath. AN example might be something along the lines of say.....as simple as conduit pipe and a locking collar fastened to the rail of the pontoon. That might be better than a bracket you are constantly putting on or taking off the boat. Just something you can ponder on....
