That was me. Nice meeting you and wish you could have stayed longer. I went in there yesterday morning to the creek and Cove on the left at the mouth of Buffalo. My brother came down from Spartanburg this morning and we had a blast. All slabs.
We are headed to Monticello in the morning to give it a try.

i tightline on murray also but about the heaviest weight that i use is 1/4oz. you posted that you are using a 2ounce weight. may i ask why? thanks

The bigger fish I have caught have been staging at the deeper water in the creeks right up to where the swallowed flats start. The fish are where the shad are. All long liners are catching slabs right now from the folks I have spoke with. Now is the time to get a 3 pounder or more guys.

I use a 1 oz weight when tightlining. I have the rods out the front and sometimes I am running them 30 ft deep around .4 to .8 MPH. Any less weight and the lines will not stay vertical in the water. Some folks like to run faster and the faster you move the more weight it takes to keep the lines vertical. Of course the depth you are running affects it as well. The deeper you are the more reisistance on the line and the more weight required to hold it vertical.
Least that is my reason for the heavier weights.

as Sea Ray stated also to keep the bait down and not rise up with increased speeds. I run 18 foot long rods out front this keeps it out farther from the trolling motor as to not spook fish in shallower water. I am catching fish 10 feet deep on these rods right now using bait casting reels where as you push the button to let out line where you can net the fish with a long handle net. Hope I didn't confuse you with my wording. Getting old is not all fun.
