Hey guys, I'm up here in Wilmington, NC and fish Santee for the beautiful shellcrackers in April and crappie in the fall, but have never gone after them in the Spring. I'm not looking for spots or coordinates lol. Just picking your fishin brains about what lake is preferred and what creeks to start. I typically spider rig and pull minners and jigs. Are the black water ponds the places to start or maybe 10-20 ft areas before the creek mouths? I am retired USAF and stay at the Navy Rec on Moultrie but typically pull the boat up to Canal ramp or Spiers. Thanx for any and all input. Comin down Mar 23-26.
As stated, if your after some real pigs, fish Moultrie. The numbers will be down a bit, but the quality will amaze. as far as Marion goes, there's only a few creeks on this lake. Wyboo, Potato, Tawcaw, and Jacks, all produce good fishing at times. Trolling and tight lining are both effective methods of catching some good'uns. Usually the deeper parts of creeks are best early, then follow fish into the shallows as the water warms. The back water ponds can be awesome if you were to time it right when the fish are just moving to the banks.
