Longlining Questions?

You would have to know the body of water youre trolling in VERY WELL if you attempt to troll at night. It's going to be tough enough seeing ANYTHING off the bow after lighting up the back of the boat to see your rods. Would the fish bite?!? I'd think so. You might have to pull 1/32nds or 1/64ths right at the top of the water as I'd think the crappie would be feeding up on the shad on top of the water. Never tried it though. I dont wanna be bouncing off bouys or anything. Besides, why loose sleep and fish at night when you can catch 'em during the daytime.:)

I've got blue led lights on the sides of the toon which light the rods/line up really well. The side light are low enough I don't think it would blind you unless you look over the side also have headlights on the toon which should allow enough light to see in front at less than 1 mph.

Be sure to let me know how it works for ya. Might just be a better solution to beating this heat if it works good for ya. I have no doubt they'll bite if youre where the bait and fish are....just controlling the boat WHILE watching the rods is my concern. Good luck to ya when you try it.:)

Just remember....they dont bite everywhere on the lake. You gotta go find them so I'd be looking on flats ranging 12'-17' deep.:ThumbsUp

the blue leds are great for night fishing, that is what I use and they work great !!! don't know the rules I North Carolina, but I do know in South Carolina if the boat is I motion the only lights legal are the navigational lights red/green up front and the white all around light in the rear !!! blue leds would have to be off while in motion !!!!

We'll that I didn't know. I'll have to check NC law. At less than a mile per hour it would be hard to tell if I was moving

Here's a have you tried it question.
Getting the line out at the same length is always in question. Has anyone used those float stoppers that are normally used with a slip float. I'm thinking the kind that you tie on the line

Don't use the tie on kind. The plastic beads type stops work better. The thread kind snags the line when casting and pretty much an all around pain. The plastic kind are smoother and dont snag the line nearly as much. Kinda scary when a double jig rig comes flying back at your face when you cast it out and lie gets caught on thread knot. Can tangle with your other poles to when it happens. Errant casts over lines.etc.etc.

I bought a spool of braided line that was color coded. Every 30 feet it changed color. I put it on my Striper rods so I could target suspended fish, especially when they were down 50-70 feet. It works really well and would work for long lining too.

Has anyone ever tried long lining at night. I was just wondering if that was an option.

I asked the same question a week or so ago, response was it was dangerous unless you knew the lake really well, stumps etc.
I'd still like to try it
