Planer bobbers?

Anybody ever use any? If so, what did you think about them? Any recommendations?

I figured this would be ideal for pulling jigs on a pontoon so the fish doesn't get spooked by the boat.

I just realized after a google search that there is a planer board called planer bobbers so some may get confused as to what I'm talking about. I'm looking for a small float that planes away from the boat and not a board. Something that is strictly for small fish.

Are you talking about the Bullet Bobber. I bought some but haven't tried them yet.

Here's a picture of them in my box, I got bought 2 sizes, They also have just what they call the mini planer boards.

I have used the Winsor planner bobber and they are great for getting jigs way out from the boat when the fish get real shallow.

I have looked at Academy for those like Beagler has but have not found in in the Greenville store yet. Looks like they would come in handy at times.

Try em out and let us know how you do. And although I'm sure there are times they are spooked by the boat, I've seen Gabowman troll (and catch) crappie in 3-4 feet of water with only about a rod's length of line out the back. His trolling motor kicked up mud

and he still caught fish....of course I realize what works for Butch might not work for us ordinary perch jerkers! :D

My only reservations about the bullet bobbers is as advertised...with a twitch in the rod they change directions...and with boat traffic and waves I dont want 10 rods out with two jigs per line and those things start changing directions on me.:o

That's a draw back for sure. I don't think they would work very good if you had a good chop on the water. Another thing i don't like about them and the reason I haven't tried them yet, To rig them you got to put them on first then tie your jig on or whatever bait your going to use.
It would have been nice if you were able to just clip them on. I'll give them a try one of these day. In the meantime they fill up the box.

I used a Prowler Planer in a spillway and caught 4 Bass . The current held them out from the shore and provided action to my jig but it was also tipped with a minnow. Anyhow I only cast 4 times and caught 4 Bass. Here is the biggest bass, the prowler planer is only 2" long! They can be put on and taken off easily if you thread the pegs on before you start fishing. I do pit them so I won't loose them and because I like to slip rig. They have a screw for weight balance for flipping direction that can be moved to one of the keels if you only want to troll one direction.
