I keep hearing people say that mega is for shallow water, loses detail at depth and distance, that has not been an issue for me. Most of my fall and winter fishing is done in 20 to 40 fow and I usually keep my si distance at 70' both sides year round. Only time I see images getting dark is when I'm scanning over a soft bottom, then I will adjust my contrast/sensitivity to that condition. I have seen some great images on other boards with mega in the 50 to 70 fow range. I never this that deep here. Hope this helps.
Roy, my experience with my old Helix 9 Mega was the same. About 60-70 FOW then it went black, although I did catch some of the bottom a couple times in about 100ft in a clear lake in Canada
