I would not spend the extra dollars for the 10. The screen is not much bigger and the only other difference is the transducer. This only helps SI and not that much, but still would do the upgrade. Look at the two side by side at one of the big box stores and you will see there is very little difference in screens and no difference in overall size.

The HELIX 5 and 7 can also use the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T to get somewhat better SI images because of the longer piezoes in the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...

The HELIX 5 and 7 cannot use the additional 800kHz SI frequency capability of the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...their SI transmitters will only do 455kHz ...

Can you tie 2 Helix 9's together and show the same way points?

So, this really gets down to my question..... i'd have to get two HB's, 9 or bigger to get SI at back, DI in front and share waypoints.........correct?
I already have a lowrance, Ethernet capable on the front with HDI, so what is my cheapest option for SI for the back of the boat going the lowrance route: but they all say SI capable, meaning you have to buy something in addition to the head unit....what is it and how much does it cost? Then i can decide if its cheaper to get two brand new HB's or stick with Lowrance.

You might think about starting a new thread with this question ...

There are Lowrance guys that can help you but may not find your question buried in a HELIX thread ...

I just about a Helix 10 DI, it should be here on Wednesday. I just decided that if I was spending the $$, I should go ahead and get the 10. Not much difference in the 9 & 10 when using DI. SI you get the upgraded transducer with the 10.

SI you get the upgraded transducer with the 10. If you are going with Helix units only the 9, 10 or 12 will network. To keep costs down, go with Helix 9 on both ends. Check with Brian at BBGMarine, he gave me a good price on these units.
