This one is kinda unique ...

Explain the lighter area in between the 2 darker areas ...

Its higher than the darker spots could be a berm of some kind.

Structure then shadow of structure then slope up then shadow of slope??

PLUS THE LIGHT PART IS ALSO BOTTOM CHANGE FROM THE HARD ROCKY BOTTOM TO SOFTE R BOTTOM

FROM THE STRUCTURE LINE IT START A SLIGHT SLOPE THEN A DEEPER HOLE THAT LEAVE DARK FOR NO SIGNAL ,THEY PASS OVER HOLE

I think I have seen one of these before....here's a shot of what I think it is when you scan perpendicular to the object




that is a lock and dam bullnose which would look very similar to the above photo if you were parallel to it.

That's a great shot matzilla ...the individual rocks have amazing detail in your shot ...

Just a guess but I think this is what you are looking at as far as shape underwater.

Thanks Redge ... I don't have to work up a diagram now that you have already ...

As this shot is not mine ... I can't be 100% sure myself ...

But all of your suggestions pose very possible scenarios ...and this is the important point ...

That we all understand how harder bottom composition ...or a rising berm can reflect more sonar data than the dark shadows and off-sloping bottom ...

You guys have done well ...
