    Default transducer question

Will the Humminbird 688ci HD DI unit work on the 598ci Hd SI transducer? Thanks

    Afraid not...

    688ci HD DI has 455kHz/200kHz 2d piezo...
    598ci HD SI has 83kHz/200kHz 2d piezo....
    ------------

688ci HD DI has 1 "down pointing" DI piezo....
598ci HD SI has 2 "side pointing" SI piezoes....

The 688 transmitters might actually vibrate the piezoes in the SI xducer...but not very effectively...

Two modes will work without any problems:

    1. 2D at 200kHz
    2. DI at 455 kHz, but actually it will be the Right SI view in vertical format.

I had already used compact SI transducer on DI unit, and I also partly used DI transducer and compact SI transducer on one DI unit, and do not see any reason for bad working of SI transducer piezo’s on DI unit, and vice versa:

I keep forgetting about Vik's xducer experiments...

It really gets back to your definition of “will it work…”. Parts of the 598’s Compact Side Imaging (CSi) transducer will work with the 688 ci HD DI model unit but the Sensitivity levels will be different and/or the sonar beam will be pointed in a different direction. It’s not a drop in replacement, nor is it officially recommended that you use a CSi transducer on an DI model unit but it can be made to work in some applications.

Witch unit gives the best Down Image picture the HB 598 or HB 688? Trying to decide which unit to buy. Thanks

The 598ci HD SI gets it's data from the 2 "side pointing" piezoes...and then renders it to look like a DI image...

The 688ci HD DI has a "down pointing" piezo ...dedicated for DI imaging...

A dedicated "down pointing" piezo (688)...will give a better DI image than a "computer generated" DI from SI (598)...
