I find the Pallette color makes a huge difference! Some I can see much more clear than others on the hds7 and HDS 8. They must have hit it on the head when they said persons eyes some times see colors differently------- course I've had monovision LASIK surgery on both eyes, then a few years later cataract surgery on both and now a retina problem in the right from all the surgery's, maybe its me? U think?
Could be my set up on the transom but in general, for me, the lowrance 9 side images fade away after 70' and don't handle 40' and deeper very well.
That is strange, because the deeper the water they say the better the picture.
Just saw the SI , sorry. I believe if u look at Low
rance they say to use a rule of thumb on SI to go no more distance than 2 or 3 times your depth. You might double check that.
If that's not the problem then I would say the transducer needs to be tipped downward a touch .IMO

The Garmin si runs 10times it depth
Brett,70 feet out is about all i like to scan,however many do like to go out wide

The Garmin with a good chirp ducer will run in 1000 ft down, SI I'm sure it fades out at some unusable distance.
