    Default Dumb Question?

I know ive seen this answered before but I cant find it , I usually fish less than 30 fow and want to know which to use on my 998 hs si 455 or 800 , (I think the other is 800). I fished today and it was like relearning the whole process again , its been awhile since ive been on the water.

use 455 to search the area, you can go back in 800 to get a closer look at your structure. I run 455 mainly. 30 fow + I go with the 800. In skinny water I would run the 455 to find the structure then mark it on the unit. then go back and fish it without running over it to keep from spooking the fish...just run toward it into the wind and watch your mark on the screen then stop in casting distance. hope it helps

Like slabbacks mentioned...455kHz is a good search tool ...because the screen is brighter all the way to the edges of the display...(but overall a fuzzier image)...

Then the 800kHz is a good "close inspection" tool...because it's crisper close to the boat...(but darker out to the edges of the display)...

Here's the same structure scanned with each frequency to see the advantages (and disadvantages) of each frequency...

(There are no dumb questions when asked by one willing to learn)...

Thanks for the help guys , I was messing with the unit and just didn't get the images I got last time out . Maybe I just expected the fish to jump in the boat .

Did you update the software in your unit...??

My SI images are not as good with the new software versions...

I'm running all the way back to 5.550 now (sometimes I even run 4.750)...
