    Default Linking 2 units together

I recently purchased a new boat and installed 2 Lowrance HDS5 Gen 2 units; one at the helm and one at the bow. I just installed the Structure Scan module on the boat last week and got to take it out for the first time this weekend. Wow !

My installer hooked up the two units thru an ethernet cable. I thought that I could set up a waypoint from the helm unit and it would also be on the bow unit as well. But that is not the case. Is it hooked up incorrectly or is there some type of setting that I need to employ in order to be able to do this?

These new electronics are something else. I don't know what I am looking at, but it's still pretty cool stuff. Thanks for any help.

i forgot. I wanted to post a screen shot that I took of a bream bed. The picture that I show here is not as clear in resolution as the actual image I saw on the unit, but it's still cool.

Can both units see the structure scan?

It should share them. You may have to allow it to use duplicate waypoint names. That can cause it to hiccup.

Is there something that I have to do to "allow" it to use duplicate waypoint names? What is a hiccup? The screen with jump around?

If it isn't set to allow duplicates, if the receiving unit already has one named 063 and you create one named 063 on the sending unit, it won't be created.

Setting is under "Advanced". Get there by hitting menu, menu, system, advanced, features I think.

Thanks, Catfan. I just received a DVD from Dr. Sonar and he addressed the same issue. I will try it again when I get back on the lake. Thanks.

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking about taking the plunge on both a side imaging and also a down imaging unit. My question is what is the best way to set these up? Side imaging at the helm and down imaging on the bow or vice versa? Also, can they be linked via Ethernet, etc., so that the units communicate gps locations etc.?

    Thanks,

    Mark
