Yes writing Nav data, exporting the data works. Has me stumped, I tried the card in both slots thinking one of them couldn't write?.

If you try to save nav data to one of these cards....does it work?

Well, If it isn't hardware it must be software.
What release came with your 1198? If it was prior to 6.490, I would try going back to see what you get and go from there. Thing is, this isn't a common symptom of the new software.....maybe you just go a bad software load or something.
Bob do you think it's good enough to go back 1 version? Or would I be better off going to the original that came installed on it from the factory? Then I will reload current version.

I would go back to the version before this started happening.
Thanks Bob that's what my plan was. I appreciate the input.

Redge...maybe try this...:
*Disconnect the xducer, the GPS antenna, and any Ethernet cables or accessories...
*Remove any map cards...
*Force the unit into Simulator mode...
*Try taking a snapshot...
Report if there are any popups, warnings, indications, whatever...

Well I did as you suggested Rickie!! Marked 3 waypoints in sim mode. Seemed to work. Of course I left my computer at home so I don't have a way to check! Darn it! What does this tell you? It said ...the normal stuff and never locked up?

If you are not running any of the new technologies such as 360 Imaging, iPilot Link or Heading Sensor antennae, I would go back to the most problem free software before they added all the new technologies, i.e. 6.49. I have struggled with 6.60, 6.61 and 6.74 on my two 998s having gone back and forth several times between 6.49 and the newer releases and now I'm sticking with 6.49 and will until the cows come home or until HB comes out with a fix for the older units (such as ours) that aren't running the new technologies. Mine not only run great on 6.49 but also don't have any of that pixelation on 83 and 83/200 that has plagues HB users for a couple years now.
