snake I have the concept of the water column and depth or atleast I think I do, the farther the shadow is away then the higher in the water column the fish is, the closer the shadow the deeper for the most part. Now what I do not understand is then how you can determine the distance how far out to each side a fish is if the shadows are representing depth. I know if it is on left side of screen it is left side of boat and vv. If I had my range set to 60 feet on each side how could I kind of gauge how far out the fish are. If it was a brush pile I could probably eventually locate it but if it was a fish I might not ever know whether I was getting relatively close to it or not.
