To say the 998 doesn't have a usable DI, is a grand exaggeration if there ever was one. There have been excellent pictures displayed here of H/B product DI images. If you had a problem getting good images, you should have spent more time learning to use the unit. I've said it before, I'd give Lowrance a slight advantage on crispness of images on the screen, but an H/B unit is much more user friendly. Pretty much plug and play, no extensive networks or power sources for accessories needed. no fumbling through confusing menus etc. Anyhoo, I want to catch fish not take pretty sonar pictures.

The only can you emptied was yours Kosmo. All of this debate is subjective and in the end the only opinion that matters is the one of the person laying out the cash.

I think Canepole probably has the most experience with a multitude of units, and here's his comment. "I can use either one of them fairly effectively. Not much difference IMO. "

I've only had my 998 out once, and didn't mess with any settings as far as contrast or sensitivity, and here's a couple pictures. Can't say that I see any difference in quality or sharpness comparing to Shane's pictures.
