Lowrance tuning pictures

Kosmo what's your hang up with the big transducer? You don't have one and it seems the people that do aren't complaining. Nobody keeps bringing up that $2300 abortion (360) you bought. If I had got suckered on that one I wouldn't be on my box bragging how good my stuff was.

HB has their specs on their website.....I doubt you will find the SI spec on Lowrance website.....I have tried to find it in the past. Any beam angle specification for Lowrance is speculation.
For HB, the 998 lists 86 deg each side for 455 and 55 deg each side for 800.. 998c HD SI Combo :: Humminbird ...That puts the HB 800khz for HB close to the same as the Lowrance 455khz.....Per Cane Pole's estimated beam angles.

I'll quit calling the Lowrance SI beam angles speculative if someone can show me where the official specifications are listed.

BTW, I don't know anyone who fishes for crappie 1000' deep.

I am just trying to point out that there is a trade-off for the improved DI you get with the dedicated DI crystal in the structure scan transducers. For me, I would rather have the better SI on a SI unit and get a dedicated DI unit if I really want good DI.

I have a HB 587 CI HD Combo, just DI...how can I get the clarity on my DI like the pictures referenced above? Does running my transducer off the trolling motor cause interference with the sonar?

Sorry, don't know too much about the 587.....Maybe someone else can chime in who has one. As far as interference goes, that depends on a LOT of variables and can usually be solved if you get it....Though it is sometimes not easy. (This is the same regardless of who's unit you have.)
A lot of people don't get interference.
If you have watched Kosmo's posts, you should see that the HB dedicated DI units are capable of very good DI for a relatively inexpensive unit.

I would like to have an 858DI with the wide DI transducer at the bow. That would be excellent DI and excellent 2D. I haven't been able to find anyone running this combination and would like to see some screen shots if anyone has this setup.

Well, you never know what you might find in deep water. Kindas like deep dodo, it is unpredictable.

I based my calculations on knowledge. It is called 30/60/90 right triangle. Based on this knowledge, I knows how far the side fan will reach out with respect to the depth of the water column. So, whatever the depth of the water column, you can multiply this value by the square root of 3 and git the coverage. Now, this information (true or not so true) is based on verifying the true fan beam width to be at said 60 degree angle at the apex of the right triangle.

I don't own any of this stuff and I am just here to voice my opinion and moon people. Truth is, there ain't much difference between the dipsticks. The big hype is usually: the one I now own is best on the market.:deadhorse

This is a good read for the smaller HB DI units...(the 597 just has a little wider screen)...

Now for the interference on the TM ...everyone's boat setup is different...

The only way to know for sure if your specific setup will have RF...is to mount it and try it...

If you get RF...bring it here and we will do our best to help you track it down...

Cane Pole, You seem to be pretty knowledgeable, about this stuff, and I suspect that what you have figured out by experimentation is probably pretty close to what the Lowrance beam angles are......I just think it is weird that they won't publish these specifications.
