brettw, I have a Elite HDI 7 . Has DI and 2D in same unit. Can show GPS, 2D, and DI on same screen , can show DI and 2D side by side or over and under. Good for comparisions. BBM is where I got mine. Talk to Brian, good guy , helpful and fast service. There are other units also that will work. Get what works best for you and your type of fishing.....crappie1133

I like my 587/788 units. If I was in the market I would take a look at the elite 7. I would stay clear of the older low 5 inch series. I thought they underperformed. JMO. I think your style of fishing should weigh in on your decision heavily.

problem is I (we) can't buy and try every likely candidate,
    All I do is this,
hunt for structure, mostly brush, take a look at it with some DI machine, cast across it or sit right on it, fish for crappie,
Right now I have the 998c hd at the helm, and a Low 135? on the TM,
It would be nice to have a solid DI at the helm and a GPS capable unit on the TM
My personal opinion is that the DI on the 998c is useless, so I going to supplement it, or sell it
I don't think you can run 2 units that both use 455 and 800 mhz without them badly interfereing with each other, perhaps I could get away with it with one transducer on the bow and one on the stern?

If you have them mounted at the stern and bow, you shouldn't get any interference if they are mounted properly. If you have any front to back cant on either transducer, you could get interference. I run two HB 898's.

I run two side by side and get little to no interference. The 998 is a powerful unit for si. get to know it well. supplement it with a bird di unit and you will be all set. those images i posted were the norm for me. if you want to network get 788. if not 597 or 587 will be just fine. dont need bigger as the wide screen only shows history on di and 2d. just the opposite for si. This is my opinion but you asked for it.

    cookie,
your saying you're running the transducers side by side and it's all good? both using 455 and800 kHz?
    thanks
I did that with the998 and lowrance hds7 touch and it was a mess.

selling it, i don't even know why either, keeping my 998c hd with the bigger screen, but I REALLY want to get an excellent DI beside the 998.
More suggestions? I think if I run another DI/455 khz transducer on the transom, I'll be mega interference.
