Yes, the xducer should stay stationary at least 20-30 sec to get real picture – all the new lines or curves on the screen will be fish with no doubt. You could see a float at the rod end, and there is a weight laying on the bottom attached to the line – rotating the reel I incline the rod and change xducer angle pointing it to the bottom 50, 100 or 200, ets feet away. That allows me to see fish close to the bottom very far of a bank.
See if I'm understanding this correctly...
*The DI piezo's beam direction is "pointing" horizontal with the water's surface...
*The fan beam is oriented for the "width" of the fan beam to be horizontal with the water's surface...
*The xducer is stationary...such that fish must swim thru the beam (instead of the beam passing past the fish)...
*As a fish swims into the fan beam edge....this "paints" the fish echo on the DI view as "Depth"...wherein reality this "depth" (on the DI display)...is actually "distance away from the xducer"...
Scenario 1...: If the fish stays at the same distance away from the xducer (as it passes thru the fan beam)...the echo will be "painted" on the DI view as a "straight line" at the same "Depth" mark in the DI view...
Scenario 2...: If the fish moves "farther away" from the xducer (as it passes thru the fan beam)...the echo will be "painted" on the DI view as a line curving "downward" in the DI view...(because the fish is moving farther away from the xducer)...
Scenario 3...: If the fish moves "closer to" the xducer (as it passes thru the fan beam)...the echo will be "painted" on the DI view as a line curving "upward" in the DI view...(because the fish is moving closer to the xducer)...
Am I interpreting this correctly...??

Vik3......so if a person has your apparatus set to lets say 50ft. and after a few,he sees no lines on the screen,lets say he casts out to 75ft. and reels back in .then several lines appear on the screen,starting at 50ft and get to lets say 40ft. and then become straight lines.the person would no that fish followed his lure and are now 40ft. away.correct?
Rickie and Kosmo, yes everything is correct. All new curved lines at certain distances on the screen are fish, but strait lines are mainly some exposed objects on the bottom. The beam is pretty wide and it is not easy to understand if the fish on the left or on the right, but slightly inclining the reel left and right it can be determined, or SI transducer can be used the same way.

I decided to improve my tackle. The problem was that the beam is very wide, I knew exactly how far the fish is, but it is hard to understand where is it – is it on the right, or on the left, or in the center of the beam…? In the past I used two DI transducers on my sonar and they worked as SI transducer with no problems. Now I decided to attach them to the end of the rod with 35 degrees of overlap, and to use two beams on sonar slit screen. Now it will be easy to see where the fish is without any manipulations with rod. I will check it with my grandson soon sitting on a bank, and not using any boat J

HOW DID YOU HOOK UP 2 DUCERS ON ONE UNIT AND HAVE EACH ON A SEPERATE SCREEN?:dono
I did it 2 years ago before I bought a dedicated compact SI transducer. I connected two DI transducers to 30ft extension cable (see picture below) – I connected central pin of the extension cable (sonar) to central pins of both DI transducers, then I also connected upper pin of the extension cable (sonar) to the right pin of the first DI transducer, and connected left pin of the extension cable (sonar) to the right pin of the second DI transducer. I set 2D window for 455 kHz and DI window for 455 kHz as well, and then watched both SI sides in two separate windows on split screen of Humm 385 DI unit:
