Default after downloading way points to PC?

You guys delete the way points, trails, off your card after loading them on the computer?
If you leave them on the card, do they keep getting downloaded over and over?

    thanks,

    Brett,
If you are using the HumminbirdPC software you have the option when you Upload the Nav Data back to the memory card to “Add” or “Replace” the Nav Data that is on the memory card. Selecting to “Add” will merge the Nav Data that you are uploading with what is already on the memory card. Selecting to “Replace” will write over the Nav Data that was on the memory card (so you better have already downloaded it!).

However the Nav Data gets on the memory card; when you load it into the unit it will compare the Nav Data on the memory card to what it has in its internal data and only allow any new Nav Data to be loaded – not the same Nav Data that it has.

Now mostly we are talking Waypoints here but it could also be Routes and/or Tracks as well. A “new” waypoint is any that has a different name or set of coordinates. If you were to export 50 waypoints from your Humminbird unit and renamed all of those waypoints. The unit would allow you to load all 50 waypoints into the unit (giving you 50 sets of duplicate waypoints) because it sees them as 50 new waypoints due to the different names even though the coordinates have not changed. To avoid this I recommend exporting the Nav Data and once you know that you have a good copy of the Nav Data saved on your computer (not just on the memory card); go back and delete all of the Nav Data from your unit. This way when you load the Nav Data from the memory card, the unit will only have the Nav Data that you want it to have on the unit.

I always keep my latest updated waypoints ran thru HBPC on a separate card with my unit at all times.....

It's not uncommon for me to have to wipe my unit clean...(with all the testing I do of software versions, xducers, etc)...and restart from scratch Deleting the Nav data, Restoring Defaults, reloading the waypoints ...yada yada yada...

If your unit has problems on the water...(whatever the cause)...the easiest way to save your day's fishing trip is to wipe the unit clean and start over....(sometimes even changing to a previous "known stable software version"..so you can reload the version you're using or testing...)

I keep "5" separate SD cards with my unit at all times....

1 with all my latest waypoints ran thru HBPC...
    1 with present software version...
1 with previous "known stable version" of software....
1 with saved snapshots and recordings...
    1 blank for today's trip...

SD cards are cheap....compared to losing a day's fishing (or testing) ....when the unit wants to "not play nice"...

After your card is full, how do you store your recordings? Mine is about full.

Insert the card into your pc's card reader...a window should popup...

Choose..."Open to view files"...another window should pop up...

*The folder on the SD card labeled "SNAPSHOTS"...will contain the snapshots and the DAT index files associated with each PNG snapshot that the HB unit uses to find the file....the .DAT file must stay with the .PNG inside the folder labeled "SNAPSHOTS" or the unit will not show the snapshot anymore...the .PNG file can be used without the .DAT file to view on your PC or to post into the forum..

This entire "SNAPSHOT" folder should be transferred to your PC ....then if you ever want to view those snapshots on the HB unit again...the entire "SNAPSHOT" folder must be transferred back to a SD card for the HB unit to find the snapshots and have all the associated files needed to view the snapshot on the HB unit again...

*The folder on the SD card labeled "RECORD" ...will contain all the recordings and their associated index and other files needed for the unit to play the recordings...

This entire "RECORD" folder should be transferred to your PC ....then if you ever want to view those recordings on the HB unit again...the entire "RECORD" folder must be transferred back to a SD card for the HB unit to find the recordings and have all the associated files needed to play it in the unit playback...

*The folder on the SD card labeled "MATRIX"...will contain all the NAV data if you "Exported all Nav Data" from the unit memory...if there is no "MATRIX" folder on the SD card...there was no Nav data exported to the card....

*The PROFILE" folder on the SD card ...will contain the unit information that is written to the card every time the card is inserted into the unit...it is not necessary to keep this folder as the unit will write it to the card again the very next time the card is inserted into the unit...

    So ...in a nutshell....

*insert the card into your PC
*Transfer the "SNAPSHOT"....the "RECORD"...folders to your PC somewhere...
*Open HBPC with card in the PC to upload the "MATRIX" contents to HBPC....

Now you can format the card for use again...

You can format the card while HBPC is open by "Right clicking" on the pic of the SD card in HBPC and choose "Format"...

Thanks again Rickie. You save a lot of strain on my brain. I will store this on my puter for further use.

Just remember to transfer the entire folders ("SNAPSHOT" and "RECORD") to your PC....just drag and drop the folder from the SD card window to your desktop....

The HB unit must have this entire folder's file structure to be able to ever show the snapshots and recordings on the unit in the future....(including the folder labeled in ALL CAPS...lower case letters will not work)..
