Would get 898 now and another next year when i saved the money. Just thought the 898 would be hassle to move back and forth from console when searching and to front when fishing or am i wrong about this. I was going with 798 for 1st year only because of the mounting system it has but sure hate to regret it. Any thoughts or advice appreciated. Thanks

I would go somewhere that has both on display and go check out the different views. The 898 will be more difficult to move back and forth.

If you have everything in place, the 898 is as simple to move as removing the cable collector and ram ball and then tightening them at the new location. Don't see anything difficult about that.

I do this type of move when I go from driving the boat to pulling jigs or crankbaits as I have a mount on the back of the boat. The only problem back there is that I have to remember left is right and right is left.

None of it's really necessary but I wouldn't trade any of it and go backwards.
It's only a key stroke. I have a HDS-8 on the bow with a LSS-1 and a LSS-2 hooked to a HDS 8 & 7 on the stern. They are nothing more than tools to find out where fish hide out, buy the best you can afford reguardless of the brand. MY $.02.

I just was worried about wear and tear on 898 cable hookup plus the hassle. It seems that moving it back and forth is not such a hassle.

I would assume you are satisfied with HDS 8 on front. Would the 798 be adequate on the console?

Yes I like the 8 up front, it's on an extended mount that I made that puts the bottom of the unit about knee high. Honestly I don't have any experience with the HBs so I couldn't say.
