I had an 898si HD and now have an HDS8.

I really prefer the HDS. Di is better. And I feel Si is better. Much less grainy and much easier to see fish to the side than the HB. 2d the HB is better. Screen on HDS is MUCH easier to see especially in the sun

The HDS8 is nice over the HDS7 because of the hot keys under the screen.

MonteSS, I now have a new998 and am not trying to start no problem but I have compared mine with Lowrance and I have not seen better pictures on the Lowrance, side or down,2 of my friends has Lowrance.i have use Lowrance since 70 and still use them and love them, both companies make a good product, and I am not prejudiced to either. When I go with them I love theirs also.

Pushing buttons in a store is one thing, but don't expect your unit to work as well as the demo mode in the store . They never work that well.
I'm talking about the down images.
I ended up with a lowrance hds 9.
    pretty happy with it

Regardless of what language those are some darn nice screen shots. WOW. The detail of the boat, pipe lines and what looks like an silo or water tank is really sharp and clear. You guys are going to end up costing me $1000- $1600. I want one of these units so bad.
Crappie spawning and morels popping up at the same time. What was God thinking when he made that schedule. It's pure torture every spring deciding which to do.
