Those screenshots are in the DS mode, not the SI, did not think to try the B&W on the SI as I was wanting to get a good dose of DS into my head for something else I'm considering doing.

    I've noticed that DS screenshots on a PC looked good and you can see the little white specks (aka fish) when viewing the screenshots here and others I've downloaded to my PC, but out on the water I was having a bit of trouble seeing the specks with a dark background, but that could just be me and my eyeballs.

    Rickie;

    Is there a setting I should look at or play with that would maybe help me and others in seeing up under docks when I'm shooting some docks??
    Taking the following depictions into account of the 455kHz vs the 800kHz... I would suspect that the 455kHz beam would better have a chance of picking up fish suspended under a dock (these depix are HB SI but I think the Low SI beam angles are similar)...

    Also I would experiment with the SI set to 1 side only to get the "SI Image zoom effect" of showing 1 side vs both sides...

    Also consider scanning as slow as you possibly can and still get acceptable images to allow more successive "pings" to hit the fish...(if you go by too fast and only 1 ping hits a fish - it's just going to be hard to distiguish that 1 ping on the display is a fish...this is elaborating the number of pings but you get the idea, I hope, that more successful "pings" makes easier descernable fish echos)...

    The oftenheard idea that SI images are best produced at 3-5mph is a misconception... 99% of my SI scanning (and snapshots) are produced at my spider rigging speeds of 0.1 - 0.4mph...

    Ok, I'll try the 800 hkz next time out. Have probably tried the 800hkz before but when I was truly messing around right after I installed it. have already tried the L or R only with no improvement imo.
    I had read the "optimum" speed was 2-4 mph for SI/DI, but will try the extra extra slow next time as well.

    Would increasing the ping speed help in any way, since we're throwing stuff out for consideration ??

    Thanks for the suggestions

    Logically it would seem increasing the ping speed would allow more pings to hit the fish...

    This is not a setting that HB allows me access to so I'm not entirely sure what effects this would have...(it sure would be interesting to see some scan pix at the same boat speed but at different ping speeds)..

    Cane pole might be able to give insight with this Lowrance feature...

    Just to be sure I didn't mislead... The HB SI beam depictions show that the 455kHz beam will detect suspended objects higher in the water column out to the side because it covers the entire 180 degrees to the water surface..

    Conversely, the 800kHz beam only covers 130 degrees.. Leaving 25 degrees to the water's surface unreachable on each side...

    Thanks for you help and suggestions, don't think you would intentionally mislead anyone on here, we're just trying to learn something here via trial and error. LOL.

    I'm pretty sure on the Low versions you can increase or decrease the ping speed via some options, so will have to get the manual out and see for sure. I know I've seen something similar to that "option" when messing around and punching buttons, etc., so will have to try and I took that "option" as being able to change the ping speed but I've been wrong lots in my past, so I'm not a rookie at being wrong.

    Again, thanks for your help and suggestions.

    Lowrance::

    Highlight "ping speed" on the Sonar menu & press the keypad left/right to make adjustments.

    Thanks Don, was pretty sure I had seen that option before.
