Several things help, as we have to deal with them working as well down in the lower state.
1. Eat a lot of garlic or take garlic tablets (the kind with scent) a day or two ahead works good for them as well as the mamoth skeeters
2. Skin so soft lotion is a must. Rub it on your arms, neck or any exposed skin and it will kill them instantly when the light on you..might have to scrap all the dead ones off after a while but it works and most stores in the lower state sell it on the counter with the reeces cups and cokes...

Thats the only 2 things ive found that somewhat give you a chance when its you against 10 million...
