That's a good question. I usually check to see if the guides are in line with the spine, and the bend of the rod, how it feels in hand and usually that's it. Especially when it's from a company I've bought rods from before. Maybe, I should be checking closer. I pulled one of my jigging rods out to do some wrapping on. Thought about maybe a nice but wrap. I got a bit of a suprise. All of what I mis thought was epoxy covered threads was actually epoxy covered tape. From the accents to the guides. All of it. So I think as my next Rod Wrapping project, I'll be replacing the tape with thread. Everything you see in the pictures is tape. Now it has functioned fine. However, I won't be questioning is that going to hold??
