Getting Minnows

I have access to a small pond that is loaded with minnows. I tried to get some for bait this afternoon and it took forever. I used a two piece, round metal mesh basket with "funnels" at each end. I baited it with crumbled stale bread. When I first dropped in the water off the dock I got maybe 5-6 after about 10 minutes. Then it was 2-3 every 10-15 minutes. I had more minnows swimming around the basket than in it.

Anybody got a better method?

I have the same store bought traps. I made a holder for bread, feed with 1/8" hardware cloth that's wired to the center. I catch a few minnows during the day. A lot more overnight. We look for silver sides to trap.

I have the best luck with dry cat food in my trap...
