Good ideas. I will be making up a few of these minnow traps. Will place them around some docks I have been fishing.

HI I made one yesterday out of a 1 gallon clear plastic jug.I hope it works!I read where it needed to be sunk down about 3 foot in the water.I guess it would work if floated on the surface with the top of the trap at the top of the water.I think I will steal a couple of slices of bacon out of the fridge and try that and maybe put in some dog food? What do you thinThe 1 gallon jug really makes a nice one and is about the size of the metal traps.I would like one that will catch some small bream for trot lines guess milk jug tops would increase the size so they could get in the trap??

Just be sure to check your States Regulations for the size-opening allowed in the traps.

HI Guys: If the trap you build requires glueing use Plumbers Goop which can be bought at Wally world,Home Depot and it will be strong!I just finished making one out of a 1 gallon jub with a wide mouth which is great to apply the bait and empty the trap.

I just made one to keep in the kayak, so haven't used it. Heck, make one and try it, not really any cost involved so you'd only be out a little time. Let us know if you catch any.

I fooled around making one with my Grandaughter who fishes with me. They moved to Atlanta in 2010 and when we were planning our first visit my GD said to bring the minnow trap, they had a steam in the backyard. Well when I got there the stream was so shallow we had trouble finding a spot deep enough to submerge it. I put a slice of bread in it and the next morning I heard my GKids laughing and talking down at the steam. I walked down there and durned if there weren't about a dozen minnows in it.
Made a believer out of me. We released the minnows. I still am amazed that there were fish in that itty biity trickle of water.
