I'm pretty sure the fisheries biologist said they raised the limit on yellow bass on Kentucky Lake this year, but I can't find anything in writing to confirm this. Any help on the limit on these would be appreciated as I like to eat them and they seem to be running pretty large this year for some reason.

You were closer to Paul than I was, but I'm sure he said that the limit on Yellow Bellies had been removed on Ky. & Barkley. If it hasn't it needs to be! Those little suckers are take'n over! Open some of'um up during the crappie spawn & see what ya find. Eggs! They love yellow jigs this time of year. I'll tell ya something. If you are catch'n Yellows the Black Crappie are close! I asked this question last week and the thread disappeared into cyber. My CO says the limit is still 15. Since he's the one that would likely be checking creel, I'll stick with his numbers till I hear differently. We caught a ton of them Monday and like wiskers said, they are mixed in with the blacks.
Yeah, I caught a bunch Monday as well. I kept 10 but probably caught 30 or more. I only managed to keep 4 crappie. I started keeping the yellows just to have something to take home. The yellow bass were full of eggs. The danged wind was blowing and kept me working hard to stay on the usual crappie spots. I tried spider rigging, but i still don't know what I'm doing. I caught all the crappie while casting the banks.

Previously, Cave Run Lake and Green River Lake had a 30-inch minimum size limit and Buckhorn Lake had a 40-inch minimum size limit.
Recommended implementing a 9-inch minimum size limit on crappie at Fishtrap Lake and removing yellow bass from the statewide aggregate daily limit of 15 fish for white, hybrid striped and yellow bass.

Lick Creek in Simpson County and East Fork Clarks River in Calloway County will be removed as seasonal catch and release trout streams. Lick Creek will still be stocked with trout in the summer months.
Recommended discontinuing the practice of using a tooth patch as the regulatory method for identifying spotted bass. Anglers use a tooth patch as a means of differentiating spotted bass from largemouth bass. However, many largemouth bass also possess this tooth patch, which leads to confusion.
Fisheries regulations voted on by the Commission would take effect in March 2010.

They Taste Just Fine.. We Just Got Back From Jonathan Creek And Caught Plenty Of Yellow Bass... I Agree There Were Some That Are A Lot Bigger Than Last Year And You Get Nice Fillets Of Of Them... Have A Synopsis Of Our Trip In The Illinois Forum With A Few Pictures Of Some Nice Crappie... Most Of All The Old Man And I Have Fun When We Hit Ky Lake..

yes yellow bass taste fine. i clean them just like crappie and bluegill. they are not like white bass that have a lot of red meat to trim away to taste good. texture is somewhere between crappie and bluegill and taste is closer to redear or bluegill to me. my son request them when he is home over all other fish. that is why i have started cleaning them so often.
When filleting yellow bass, I like to keep the knife real light leaving a thin band of meat on the skin. This band will be mostly all red meat depending where you catch them. Illinoisgiller

All the signs at the ramps state the limit is 15 yellow bass, white bass, strip bass, only 5 can be over 15" all of these fish go in one limit.
Yellow bass are some good eating fish, just as good as gills & crappie mybe better. No need to worry about red meat on a yellow bass.
If your in to yellows I'ts a good bet black crappie are in there with em. try usein a bobber with a tube jig have the jig just above the cover and fish it slow. yellow bass don't hit the jig to good but the crappie will

Your right Whiskers, went yesterday and when we went shallow and caught blacks, you had to waid through the yellow bellies.
I knew I wasn't go'n crazy! :D Is that 30 on the whites, stripers (rockfish) & hybrids combined with a 15" size limit on the latter. And no limit on the yellows? :confused:Quote:

League of KY Sportsmen has proposed removing the Yellow Bass from that group, and making them a 30 fish/day limit & no size limit. KDFWR still has to rule on that proposal, far as I know ... and if it passes, wouldn't take effect until Mar 2010. That's how I understand it to be, anyway ;)
You KY/Barkley lake guys need to get in touch with Mr Rister, and let him know that you would support such a proposal !! Tell him where you're from (this site) ... and if we get a good number of people contacting him, maybe he will review this site more often ;) NUMBERS TALK, people ... so let your local CO know about the site & the number of members we have. Maybe then we can have our input amount to something more than just expressing our thoughts/views on here, amongst ourselves.

Here's the answer I just received from the KDFW................
"The current regulation is the one posted in our fishing guide and on our website. For White, Hybrid, and Yellow bass the daily limit is 15. Of those fifteen, only five can be greater than 15 inches in length. I believe the new regulation will separate the yellow bass from the whites and hybrids and give them a 30 fish daily creel limit. However, that regulation is not officially on the books yet."

... that I had taped , and just watched it this morning, so I don't know when it first aired.
But, the question was raised ... and the KDFWR guy said that Yellow Bass would be taken out of the "combined" mix ... the daily limit would be 30, with no size limit ... and it would be in effect in 2010 (with the new license).
Also ... Stripers are NOT included in this combination ... their daily limit is 5 and size limit is 15" --- only White Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, & Yellow Bass have the daily limit of 15 fish w/only 5 over 15" (with Yellow Bass being removed from this group in 2010).
