Thinking about going into the boat business. Custom made fishing boats. New and used. Do service work and such. New trolling motors, seats, fish finders.
Something like this:
Jons
Just testing the waters. Would like your input.
thanks,

What type fiberglass or aluminum? I have a friend that builds hulls for all welded aluminum boats real close to you. He is always looking for new dealers and you will need a boat hull to start with won't you ? He can build hulls to your specs if you need them . Good luck if you venture into this .:D
Not needing one currently, but when I start looking, you will be my first stop.
im been looking for someone that knows his but from a hole in the ground to do service work with out having to drive two or three hours
cool, post some pics!
Yikes, a 28 ft john boat.
I've thought of doing the same thing...well not exactly but the service part, maybe spring time getting ready and such...ie...lower unit change, check and replace plugs, decarb, water pump replacements and such...but you have to watch joe q. public. They can and will stick it to you at some point. I've had so many tell me to stay away from it because of the wrong person trying to come back on you for something that you really didn't have anything to do with...ecspecially in a day and age of lawsuits running rampent.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage you...just some food4thot. I think it would be great myself. I just do things for friends and the such now. Normally for a good dinner or some mountain dew or something, really whatever they want. I like working on stuff and visiting with people so its all good. I do have a ranger in the shop right now I'm wetsanding for one of my students parents...lol. Its break time right now. :D
I think outfitting boats though would be an great deal. I think I would stay away from the service part though...outboard wise. To many unseens and unknowns that can come back to haunt you, and being a 1 person deal and probably using your own funds and not being a "shop" or "dealer" or whatever you could take a hard hit that would be hard to come out of. I would outfit and build boats for folks though. I really enjoy the redoing of old fiberglass boats...its amazing to see the old gel come back to life! Just my .02 cents. Let us know how it goes!
Just noticed what you are a dealer of!! I have know some folks that used to work at the factory in Hope. I live in Nashville. You think you could outfit my Ranger with some Klipsch speakers? Now that would be slick! lol :D
We can do that. HDTV's if you want. We do house boats. Satellites that work under way at 70 mph. All the tunes you want.
Might need a trade. That Ranger looks great. Got a glass boat that needs that. Think I am coming down sat. to fish with Darryl at Greeson.
I don't think Scrapper needs HDTV and a satellite in his bass boat. He already stares at his fish finder too much as it is!
Slip, thanks for the compliments...its really neat to see the transformation...if you are interested in getting you boat done sometime send me a pm, I'm actually wanting to start doing some of this for a little extra (fishing) income...lol. The one I'm doing now hopefully will get some attention. How did your trip with Jerry and Darryl go?? Its amazing to me how they can catch fish when no one else can, would be pretty awsome to get to follow them around for a while and pick their brains!
Agrihawg...you gotta look at something when you don't catch fish!!! :D
Dang, Doug. Are you tryin' to cut out all your fishin' time?:D
I'd like to see some of the hull designs that you come up with. I haven't seen a big manufacturer put out a design yet, that I'd want...and had even thought about building my own 1860 from a plain hull, but won't have the time to do it next year. Sounds like you're the man I need to see. Be sure to keep me updated.
I am kicking the idea around of trading ol' yellow in and buying a pontoon for summer time fun and getting another tiller or maybe a stick steer setup for fishing. So I could be in the market for something soon. I would like to be able to buy both boats at one place, but I don't have to. The fishing boat would need to hang a 40 thru a 60hp. The toon 90 to 135hp. Just thinking at this point.
Hey Brad,
I may have a buyer for ol' yellower. But if I do what I'm thinking about, it will be just be flat bottoms custom built. May not do any motors at this time. Plan was to get custom made jon/crappie boats and use there motor or used motors.
Just want people to be able to get whatever they want in a boat.
