14 days ago my wifes co-worker got the first of 2 vaccine shots. They say the first shot is 85% effective. He must be in the remaining 15% because he tested positive today.

That sucks for him, good luck, hopefully milder case.
I love the percentages, first dose 85% effective? Where did they get that number? 85% of the few people in there short study?
I recall reading something that those who get the virus after receiving the first shot can reasonably expect to have better immune response because of the first dose. So, hopefully he will get well sooner and have less problems.
this vaccine is a total unknown using new technology which makes it more suspect IMO. Medical folks I have spoken with won't say so publicly but are NOT going to get it or their families unless forced to by hospitals. personally will wait at least a season and let those who take it now be the real test study.
best to all who do take it and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Yep.

My primary care physician and my dentist both got it about a month ago. My wife works at a pharmacy and all the employees there took it and they've been giving them regularly for over a week now. I'm a teacher and I took it. Unsure about future things for sure, but figured if wifey got it, I may as well too. Wouldn't want to go on without her anyway...........maybe we'll both grow wings and we'll fly away together. She says she's gonna grow wings and I'm gonna grow horns & a pointy tail. I said "bat wings?" and she wasn't nearly as amused as I was. :)
Take care everybody.
We get our second shot this Saturday. Our doctors and VA strongly urged us to get the shots. We are in the over 75 group.
At my age, I don't fear dying as it is inevitable. What I fear is Nursing Homes.
Was able to make an appointment today to get my 1st shot on Feb. 24th.

Wife and I get our second shots Feb 10
VA called today to let me know that they are working on getting vaccines. I also applied with my primary care doctor. I'm no expert with smart phones but vaccine technology doesn't scare me. We learned how to send men to the moon with new technology, intelligent people know how to innovate, new vaccine technology needed to happen for a new viral pandemic. I will be happy to join the vaccination club when my turn comes.
I had Covid in late December and I was given an antibody infusion that my doctor recommended. I’m fine now and hopefully I have some level of immunity for a while.
Maybe by the time the immunity wears off the vaccine will be available for my age group in my area. Unless there’s really strong evidence there’s a problem with the vaccines I plan to get it when I’m able.
Exactly what my dad says! He says he's not going if he has anything to say about it.............he says if he ever gets where he can't take care of himself and it's gonna cost thousands of dollars to keep him alive laying in a bed somewhere, he'll choose the 25 cent .22 caliber treatment. Scares me to hear him talk like that, but I wouldn't want to be in one of those places either. I can understand his thinking.
Received my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine today. No side effects so far. I thank God and pray that all who need this vaccine will be able to get it soon.
When I can get it I will. I’m not messing around with this!
My wife and I are scheduled to get ours this Wed. I don't think she is very happy about it.
Why? She could refuse and wait until she gets sick. We’re all gonna get it sometime whether we get the vaccine or not. Just like the flu......we’ve all had it, I’m sure, at some time in our lives. I had flu really bad about five years ago. It took two rounds of tamilfu and sinus infection meds to get me over it. 30 years ago, it would have done me in and I know it. There’s lots of things worse than dying. I was wit my mother when she passed back in June. I can tell you being sick and feeling really bad, I don’t mean the head cold or stomach bug feel bad, I mean feeling deathly I’ll is much worse than actually going over. I got my vaccine. When my time comes, I am not scared to go. I do still have things I want to do, though.
Right now, I’m just concentrating on keeping my 79 year old dad fairly happy. With Mom gone, he’s lost thirty pounds and his days consist mostly of watching black n white westerns all day while I’m at work. I’ve already put in for an extra week off at work for Spring Break and I’m hoping he’ll go camping and fishing with me and my cousins, his nephews, for the Spring spawn. I so want to get him in that 2’ water for some buck brush fishing for them big slabs!
I believe by summer, this COVID stuff will start trending down.
Well, looks like I may be a guinea pig for this vaccine. My school was closed today due to 10 teachers being out and close to 100 kids sent home including all players on both the boys & girls basketball teams. All were close contacts to just a handful of positive cases. One of those positives is my friend, and father of a girls basketball player, and he & his wife met me & mine for dinner Saturday night at our local steakhouse. He said he began feeling like he had the flu on Sunday and got a quick test and he’s positive........so I’m now on the close contact list, meaning I can’t go back to the school until February 3 at the earliest. We will see if my vaccine keeps it away, or at least at bay. I’ll update if anything changes.
I will get my second shot Feb 9. Just getting vaccinated,,there seems to still be a risk,,so stay safe.
After receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, is it safe to see friends and family? | Fox News
Not going to get the vaccine...They do not know enough about side effects, etc. bottom line is "they lie"...
I’d rather get the vaccine than Covid 19 and endure it’s possible side effects for life. I never had any effects what so ever from taking the first shot except a minor sore arm for about 12 hrs. Keep the muscles relaxed totally when taking the shot and have a less sore arm.
Finally have appointment for 1st vaccine. Looking forward to getting this done.
To each their own. But do any of us actually know what’s in the water we drink, the food we eat, the other medicine we take??
I’ve had my first and my wife has had both. Not sure how long the immunity will last, but I would say the shots are as safe as most anything else we put in our bodies these days.

Have not been able to get one in my area since they changed age limit. Just found out they are saying in my area they will have 800 doses after the first of February. Probably got ten times that waiting like I am. State says they don’t have money to distribute.
Wife and I scheduled to get our first tomorrow.
Each pharmacy or vaccine location must have an epipen thee or they can’t give the vaccines, just in case of a serious allergic reaction. Epipens are hard to get, so there we go.......it’s certainly possible that this is all planned out, but we will never really know.
High School Principal did a ZOOM meeting with us this morning.......he’s positive and feeling bad. “Wheels are about to come off of schools” is what he said. We’ll see how it unfolds.
Is the epipen shortage as bad as it was in 2019? Seems most of the people with reactions are ones that would already be carrying an epipen. Steve Hilton? I will trust the nation's leading infectious disease expert over a political commentator. Especially Thursday morning!
Don't get political, or Slab or a Supermod will shut down these posts.
I don’t know about epipens much. All I am saying is what my wife, whose been a pharmacy tech for over 20 years, has said. Maybe it really wasn’t thought out properly. Anyhow, I do know one reason why the COVID vaccines may be slow getting into arms is because the epipens are hard to find.
As far as my school goes.......boys & girls basketball teams traveled last Friday night to a school that had already been shut down for COVID and had just recently opened back up. We had players and coaches coming down sick all weekend long. So the necessity for sports has put us in harm’s way and now we’re shut down. I spoke with a school board member and told him that I thought all extracurricular activities should cease for a while so that classroom lessons could resume as quickly as possible and hopefully keep going. He disagreed and said “we can’t give into fear, we gotta play them basketball conference games and practice for baseball & softball after school as well.” His daughter plays basketball & softball.
Common sense doesn’t figure in too high with most decision making. But, I’m just a little private soldier and not one of the major generals.
WE received our second shot this past Saturday , Jan 23. WE had no reactions to either shots. The process here is well organized with a wait time of 30 minutes typical. Small towns are much more organized than large ones where people don't know their mailman by name.
First dose, fast, easy, painless. Second appointment made.
Like some of you, I was considering passing on the vaccine because of the uncertainty. Due to having only 25% use of my heart... I posed the question to my cardiologist. His response: get it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. With your heart the chance of dying because of this illness is more sure of a thing than dying from the vaccine for it. I got the shot.
I received my first dose of the Pfizer version on Thursday at work. I had some pretty nasty side effects including headache, exhaustion, sore joints and my gums felt swollen. The side effects I was blessed with were far worse than when I had the actual covid back in November. Not looking forward to the second dose. I will say that I am one of only 5 that I know of that had any meaningful side effects out of over 500 that received it.
First Moderna, zero side effects.
More vaccine coming on line. Looking forward to the time that everyone is eligible.
I got my first shot in early January. Got the second on 4 February. For the first I had a little discomfort at the injection site and felt like hammered poop the day after. Then the second - arm much more painful but not unbearable. Can't tell you how I felt the day after the 2nd, as I had surgery to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma (skin cancer) that day. Not feeing anything like the day after the first, so not too bad a reaction as far as I am concerned.
Got my second shot this morning
Still waiting. PA is not doing well with distribution, at least here in the SE. Glad to see guys getting the vaccine.
