That looks bad. Could be dangerous.
It's the road that is an issue, not the levee itself. The levee is thicker there and the water running off the access road is causing this.
I work for a geotechnical engineering company up here in PA. I agree - definitely something going on at the top which has saturated the topsoil downslope from this area, and topsoil has slid off of the clay underneath. If not remediated, it could turn BAD in the future, if the dam begins to erode from run off.
If I was in that Colonel's shoes in Vicksburg, I would classify this situation as URGENT! I have seen what continued rainfall runoff can do to topsoil and clay underneath.....and we ain't near about done with the rain coming tomorrow! jmo:popcorn
Is the access road, the road on top of the dam? Id the bridge still out from I-55? If so, it will make it hard to get to the landing at the dam.
They probably don't have the personnel or equipment to deal with this on site. Probably see more response on Saturday.
