Any of y'all have any experience with the motor guide xi5 trolling motor? Pro's and con's? More Intersted in the spot lock and waypoint point A to B navigation

I have an xi5 that will be for sale in the next week or two and be replaced by an ultrex. I cannot seem to get used to the electronic steering unless I use the remote. I bass fish most of the time so I prefer a foot control. As for spot lock, unbelievable. I can sit on a deep hump on Toledo Bend in 15-20mph winds and not budge. It has truly changed the way I fish deep water. Feel free to ask me any questions.
Search on here and you will find a lot. In a nutshell, in current or wind it will hold you well. On still water it will fight itself and bounce you all over a small area, never settling in - my experience on a DLV238. When trolling @ 1.5 ish mph it can randomly ramp up to full speed. Heading hold while trolling is great and except for the random "ramp up" the cruise function works well. I have not networked in into the HDS yet so no info on the point A to point B. So it has some quirks, but I'm not ready to trade it..

I have one on my bay boat. For trolling or holding on a spot nothing better. Fishing a bank or working cover jigging is a pain because of remote only on saltwater models.
I have an 80/54 with an hdi ducer. I did run the cable through a compressor hose to coil it. It would take a lot of rotations to rip the cable.
Mine is not a saltwater version and has a pedal and remote.

I can't give much of an opinion on spot lock or any other features with mine as I just got it back from the shop. What I can say, is that if you mount the TM, put it in the water, and the VERY FIRST TIME you hit the button it makes a grinding noise because the magnets inside the lower unit are broken, Motorguide WILL NOT warranty the product. Something to do with it most likely hit a tree or obstruction under water... again, the trolling motor was brand new, never used, and the very first time I hit the button there was an awful grinding noise.....

You really don’t get the full benefit and capabilities of the XI5 unless it is linked to your Lowrance, especially the touch screen models. Simply touch your waypoint, tell auto pilot to take over, then go to the back of the boat and make a sammich. When you get done, you are anchored on the next brush pile

I can't answer that for you, because I've never paid that much attention, and i'm not a trolling or long line kind of guy! I'm sure motor thrust size combined with boat size/weight and wind direction/speed would make it different for each application. I have an 80 lb thrust on a 22 ft Center Console and have no problems having adequate speed to run side imaging on the lake, or chasing birds in the marsh!!Quote:
